Guwahati, Aug 29 (PTI) Three persons were arrested from here after heroin worth over Rs 3 crore was seized from their possession, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Acting on specific information, the state’s Special Task Force (STF) apprehended the three suspected drug dealers from a vehicle in the Beharbari area of the city and recovered 379 grams of heroin, he said.

”In an excellent intel-driven op (operation) earlier today, @STFAssam cracked down on 3 drug dealers who were carrying 379 grams of heroin valued at over Rs 3 cr,” the chief minister said in a post on X on Friday.

They have been apprehended and taken into custody for further action, Sarma added.

The STF, in a social media post, said that the heroin was hidden in 37 soap cases inside a secret chamber in the vehicle.

Two arrested persons hail from Manipur’s Imphal East and Churachandpur districts, and another from Assam’s Cachar district. PTI DG DG BDC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
