Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 29 (PTI) Bringing relief from the heatwave in Kerala for the past few weeks, heavy rains lashed several parts of the state on Wednesday with the IMD predicting more precipitation in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there is a possibility of rains with lightning and winds of speeds between 40-50 kilometers per hour in parts of the state from April 29 to May 3.

It also issued a yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts for the day.

A yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.

The heavy rains in Thiruvananthapuram raised the water levels of the Aruvikkara Dam and led to opening of three of its shutters by 30 centimeters in the afternoon.

Kerala has been reeling under a heatwave through most of April leading to rise in electricity usage and resultant power outages as the consumption increased. PTI HMP ROH
