Heavy rains in parts of Rajasthan, several low-lying areas inundated

Jaipur, Jul 18 (PTI) Heavy rainfall lashed many parts of Rajasthan on Friday, inundating several low-lying areas of Kota, Pushkar and Ajmer.

In view of the heavy rainfall, authorities declared a holiday in schools in Ajmer district Pushkar witnessed incessant rainfall for several hours, leading to flood-like situation in several low-lying areas. Shops and houses in the main market area were submerged, while vehicles were seen floating on waterlogged streets.

In Kota, gates of the Kota Barrage were reopened on Friday following continuous rain in the region. Sikar also recorded heavy rain in the morning, causing waterlogging in several areas.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in parts of Rajasthan on Friday, a Met department official said.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Sangod in Kota at 17 cm, followed by Pilibanga in Hanumangarh at 11 cm. Many other places recorded below 11 cm rains, according to a Met department report.

The department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in several places in Kota, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions on Friday.

Red alert of extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Tonk and Pali while orange alert for very heavy rains is for Baran, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, Udaipur and Nagaur.

At the same time, yellow alert for heavy rainfall is there for Banswara, Dausa, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Karauli, Sikar, Jalore and Jodhpur. PTI SDA ANM ANM DV DV
