Ranchi, Sep 10 (PTI) The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Jharkhand till September 12, an official said on Thursday.
A ‘yellow’ alert (be updated) for downpour has been issued for 10 districts of the state – Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Chatra, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar and Jamtara – till 8.30 am on Friday, he said.
A similar warning has been issued for Latehar, Chatra, Palamu and Garhwa for 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, the official said.
Deputy Director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand, said a cyclonic circulation persists over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.
“Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and adjacent regions today. Due to this, an increase in rainfall activity will be seen in Jharkhand,” he said.
Anand said widespread rainfall is expected across Jharkhand, with the possibility of heavy showers in parts of the state till Friday.
“The system will start to weaken from Friday and rainfall will reduce from Saturday,” he said.
Jharkhand has recorded 840.5-mm rainfall against a normal of 873.8 mm between June 1 and September 10, an overall deficit of 4 per cent.
West Singhbhum district has registered the highest surplus rainfall at 46 per cent, while Pakur recorded the highest deficit at 48 per cent during the period. PTI SAN RBT
