Dehradun, Apr 26 (PTI) The Meteorological Centre here on Sunday issued a warning for the plains of Uttarakhand as maximum temperatures remained above normal, prompting authorities in the state capital to order closure of schools and anganwadi centres on April 27.

According to the evening bulletin of the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees above the seasonal average.

Pantnagar recorded the state’s highest temperature at 39.8 degrees Celsius.

Mukteshwar and New Tehri recorded an above-normal maximum temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius.

No rainfall was recorded across these major stations between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the bulletin said.

An order issued by Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal said all educational institutions from classes 1 to 12 and anganwadi centres will remain closed on Monday, in view of the extreme heat conditions.

According to the Meteorological Centre’s bulletin, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next one-two days. Over the subsequent three-four days, the temperatures are expected to drop by 3-5 degrees.

Isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts are likely to witness very light to light rain, thunderstorms or snowfall at altitudes of 4,400 metres and above. Dry weather will prevail across the remaining districts of the state.

Dehradun is likely to witness clear to partly cloudy skies, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle around 39 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius, respectively, the bulletin said. PTI AKY DIV DIV
