Chandigarh, May 12 (PTI) Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday accused the BJP-led government in Haryana of following a “well-planned policy” of selecting “outsiders” for government jobs and depriving local youth of employment opportunities.
The Congress general secretary also alleging that 70-80 per cent of the state government jobs were being given to outsiders.
Questioning the state’s policy on government recruitment, he asked if Haryana’s youth had become so “incompetent” that they were being deprived of jobs in favour of candidates from other states.
A large number of candidates from outside Haryana were being selected in recruitments under a “well-planned policy” for various posts, Surjewala alleged.
The BJP government is committing a brazen daylight robbery of the rights of Haryana’s youth by recruiting “outsider candidates” for Class 1 to Class 3 officers and the teaching positions, he alleged.
The Congress leader alleged that for the past 11 years, the state government misled youth with slogans like “‘bina kharchi, bina parchi’ (no favouritism or bribe) ” but the youth of Haryana have faced neglect.
Attacking the recruitment system of the Nayab Saini government, Surjewala alleged “70-80 percent” of the posts in every recruitment drive for officers being conducted in the state “through the Haryana Public Service Commission and Haryana Staff Selection Commission are being filled by candidates from outside Haryana”.
Surjewala cited the recruitment for Assistant Professors (College Cadre) in the Hindi discipline, saying the results were declared recently and list released.
It is evident from the list for Assistant Professors (College Cadre) in Hindi that there was a total of 139 posts, including 67 posts in the general category. However, only 60 posts were actually filled.
An examination of the list clearly reveals that, out of these 60 posts, 41 have been filled by individuals from outside Haryana.
This suggests that the state government believe that the youth of Haryana perhaps do not even know how to read Hindi, or that they are simply not competent enough to study or teach the language, he said.
Surjewala further pointed out that the recruitment advertisement for Assistant Professors (College Cadre) in Psychology was issued on August 2, 2024. There was a total of 85 posts, with 44 posts allocated to the general category. The results for this recruitment have now been declared, he said.
The most shocking revelation is that, out of the 44 posts in the general category, only three candidates were declared successful, while all the others failed. There were 16 posts reserved for the SC category, yet not a single individual was found eligible, meaning everyone failed.
Similarly, there were 17 posts allocated to the BC-A and BC-B reserved categories, and not a single eligible candidate was found, meaning, once again, everyone failed. Even in the 5 posts reserved for the EWS category, all candidates failed, he said.
He alleged that the strategy of the government is to either recruit “outsiders” or keep the posts vacant.
Talented youth were being forced to seek work abroad, while government jobs in Haryana were being given to outsiders, he said.
Surjewala stated that this is not a new occurrence, but rather a pattern under the BJP government of brazenly infringing upon the rights of Haryana’s youth.
He cited several other examples in this regard: Recently, the recruitment list for Assistant Engineers (Civil) in the Irrigation Department was released; in this recruitment drive, “outside candidates” were selected for 28 out of the 49 posts in the general category.
In the Technical Education department, “outside candidates” were selected for 106 out of the 153 posts for lecturers in the general category.
“In every recruitment drive for the HCS (Haryana Civil Services), more than 40 percent of the selected candidates have been from outside the state,” he claimed.
JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala on Tuesday also slammed the BJP government, saying instead of bridging the widening gap of unemployment in the state, “is actively engaged in deepening it by eliminating government job opportunities”.
He remarked that the state government issues only a handful of recruitment notifications, and even in those instances, the youth of the state are deprived of employment.
Furthermore, even in those limited government recruitment drives where candidates do get an opportunity to appear, “the youth of Haryana are ultimately denied employment”.
He said that the youth of the state hold the primary right to employment opportunities within Haryana, and the BJP government must recognize this fact. PTI SUN NB NB
