Charkhi Dadri (Haryana), Jul 21 (PTI) An interfaith marriage involving a couple from the same village here has sent the locals on edge, with the panchayat ordering the dissolution of the alliance.   A panchayat presided over by the elders of Kheri Sanwal, Patuwas, and Mahrana villages also ordered the boycott of the family of the 25-year-old Muslim man from Mahrana village.

A formal nullification of the marriage through legal process is underway.    “In Mahrana village, a young man and a woman got married on July 3 in a court. The villagers made efforts, and this marriage has now been cancelled,” Dharampal, who presided over the panchayat, told reporters.   The woman, who had for a brief period converted to Islam, has now sworn in an affidavit that she has returned to her previous faith, he said.   Police are deployed in the village in light of a similar situation in the past.  Dharampal said, even before any decision was taken by the panchayat, the grandfather of the man of his own barred his grandson from entering the village.   Another member of the panchayat said the man, his father, and his grandfather have been ostracised from the three villages.   He said it is not all right for people from the same or nearby villages to marry, and that such a marriage breaks the social fabric.
