Chandigarh, May 27 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed that all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state should be upgraded with modern workshops equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and tools suited to current industrial requirements.

He emphasised that ITI courses and curricula must be redesigned in line with industry needs to ensure that students become job-ready immediately after completing their training.

This alignment, he said, would not only improve employment opportunities for youth but also ensure that industries receive a steady supply of skilled manpower as per their requirements.

The chief minister also stressed the need to encourage self-employment and support young innovators in converting their ideas into start-ups.

He issued these directions while chairing a review meeting of the Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Department’s five-year action plan under ‘Haryana Vision-2047’ here.

He said that regular training and industry coordination should also be ensured for teachers in ITIs, polytechnics, and other vocational institutions so that they can effectively prepare students according to evolving market demands.

According to an official statement, he further said that the government is also providing incentives to industries that generate employment for youth.

The chief minister said that while industrial requirements have evolved over time, many ITIs are still operating with outdated training systems. As a result, industries are struggling to find skilled manpower, and ITI graduates are not getting suitable employment.

He reiterated the need for complete modernisation of courses and workshops in all ITIs in accordance with industry demand.

Principal Secretary, Labour and Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship Department, Rajeev Ranjan informed the meeting that a survey is being conducted to assess the modernisation needs of ITI workshops.

In the first phase, orders worth Rs 10 crore have already been placed for procurement of modern equipment for surveyed ITIs, which will be supplied shortly.

The chief minister further directed the department to sign MoUs with industries to ensure skill training is directly linked with employment opportunities.

He asked officers to assess industry requirements in a structured manner and prepare skilled youth accordingly.

He also sought a detailed report in the next quarterly review meeting on the number of industry partnerships established.

Saini also stressed that teachers of ITIs and polytechnics should undergo regular training to stay updated with industry trends.

He suggested that ITI faculty should be sent to industrial units for exposure visits, while industry experts should be invited to institutions for student mentoring sessions.

During the meeting, the officers informed that a state-level Instructor Training Centre is proposed to be set up in Kurukshetra.

The chief minister directed that until its establishment, training should begin this year in collaboration with Shri Vishwakarma Skill University.

Principal Secretary, Department of Future, Amneet P Kumar informed that under the Foreign Cooperation Department, training centres will be established in four districts to facilitate overseas employment for youth.

Locations have been finalized in Karnal and Panchkula, while selection of two more districts is underway. These centres will prepare youth for international job opportunities.

She further informed that there is a demand for around 80,000 truck drivers in Canada, and the department is in discussions with Ashok Leyland to provide training and facilitate overseas placements for youth.

The chief minister urged that more employment fairs should be organized to provide job opportunities to youth.

He also sought data on the number of job fairs conducted last year and the employment outcomes achieved through them.

He directed that follow-up tracking of candidates receiving placement offers should be conducted to verify whether they have secured stable employment.

Saini further directed the officers to regularly visit industries to understand workforce requirements and guide students accordingly. PTI SUN NB NB
