Haryana civic body polls: BJP promises ‘pink toilets’, rebate on house tax for women

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (PTI) With elections for the Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat Municipal Corporations scheduled to be held on May 10, the BJP on Wednesday released manifestos for the civic bodies promising ‘pink toilets’ and 25 per cent house tax exemption in women-owned properties.

‘Pink toilets’ will be constructed in all the civic bodies, where facilities like sanitary napkin vending machines and baby feeding rooms will also be provided, as the party promised several special initiatives for women.

New plants will be set up in all the urban local bodies for disposal of wet and dry waste. Advanced technology based sewerage treatment systems will be developed in cities to strengthen the management of industrial and chemical waste.

Promising legal recognition of land and house ownership, for the rural and urban families who have lived there for more than 20 years will be granted legal ownership of land and houses, ensuring their registration in their names. Additionally, a 25 per cent house tax exemption will be granted to houses registered in the names of women.

By empowering the Development Board constituted for slum rehabilitation, speedy and effective implementation of schemes will be ensured and timely results will be ensured by implementing the works related to housing, infrastructure and livelihood in mission mode.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and BJP State President Mohan Lal Badoli released the party’s manifesto on Wednesday for the civic polls at party’s state headquarters in Panchkula.

The manifesto outlines 21 key promises, each of which both Saini and Badoli said will be fulfilled.

The BJP’s civic polls manifestos were carry the tagline “Samarpit Seva, Sashakt Sushasan”.

The general elections will be held for the posts of mayors and councillors of Municipal Corporations in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, along with elections for the President and all ward members of Rewari Municipal Council and Municipal Committees of Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana.

The votes will be counted on May 13.

The main contest in the municipal elections is expected between the Congress and the ruling party BJP. At present, the mayor’s post to all the three municipal corporations are held by the BJP.

Among other promises, which BJP has made in the manifestos, include development of good public parks in all civic bodies that will be accessible to persons with disabilities while dedicated spaces for yoga and wellness activities will be developed in parks.

Keeping in mind the health of the citizens, open gyms will be arranged in the parks and modern machines will be installed for scientific disposal of green waste.

Old and dilapidated sewerage lines in all cities will be identified and renovated in a phased manner.

The problem of waterlogging and air pollution will be reduced by upgrading the sewerage system plant through modern technology.

A permanent solution to the problem of stray animals and dogs will be ensured and a campaign will be launched to sterilize stray animals.

Street vendors and hawkers will be given financial assistance to set up businesses and will be given secure and sustainable employment opportunities by creating well-organized vending zones.

To mitigate the water crisis and ensure better management of resources, rainwater harvesting will be made mandatory for all government and non-government buildings under the urban local body.

All streetlights will be upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs and solar lights will be installed.

Keeping in mind the increasing number of vehicles, multi-level parking will be constructed as per requirement, which will ease the traffic by reducing the pressure caused by roadside parking.

Extensive CCTV network will be installed at key locations, markets and public areas of the city and prevention of crimes will be ensured by strengthening surveillance through an integrated control room.

Among the MCs, for Panchkula MC, the BJP has promised that 2,100 flats will be constructed at the planned site (Khark Mangoli) at a cost of about Rs 300 crore for the rehabilitation of the residents of Rajiv Colony and Indira Colony in Panchkula.

An Integrated Command and Control Centre will be established in Panchkula at nearly Rs 200 crore. A world-class shooting range sports complex will be constructed in Panchkula city at a cost of approximately Rs 170 crore.

Addressing the gathering at party office in Panchkula, Chief Minister Saini stated that for the BJP, a manifesto is not merely a declaration, but a solemn responsibility towards the public.

He remarked that a manifesto embodies the sentiments of the people and fulfilling every single promise contained within it is our bounden duty.

Saini affirmed that the “triple engine” government would work with speed and vigor on key priorities such as greening cities, strengthening sanitation drives, renovating sewage systems, developing modern parks, improving traffic and road infrastructure, resolving the issue of stray animals, empowering street vendors, water conservation, establishing multi-level parking facilities, enhancing security through CCTV surveillance, and digitizing civic services.
