Gurugram, Oct 21 (PTI) Gurugram Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj on Wednesday paid homage to police personnel across the country who laid down their lives while performing their duties, officials said.

Speaking at a programme organised on Police Commemoration Day, Kabiraj said the day is dedicated to the indomitable courage, dedication and sense of duty of Haryana Police personnel and police forces across the country, whose sacrifices ensure every citizen feels safe and secure.

He also laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial at the Police Lines. Addressing the gathering, Kabiraj said that while discharging their official duties, police personnel sacrificed their lives to safeguard the country’s unity and integrity and protect the lives and property of citizens.

During the programme, Kabiraj felicitated 15 police personnel for their exemplary work and 15 children of police personnel for their outstanding performance in Classes 10 and 12, they said.

Since the formation of Haryana in 1966, 88 police personnel have laid down their lives while serving the state and its citizens, he said, adding that from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026, a total of 154 police personnel across the country made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, including four personnel from Haryana Police.

The Police Shaheed Foundation and the RWA of Police Lines, Gurugram, also honoured them for their outstanding performance and the children of police personnel for their excellent academic achievements.

On October 21, 1959, ten personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), while patrolling along the Indo-Tibetan border in the Ladakh region, were ambushed by Chinese troops and lost their lives in the line of duty.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
