Gurugram, Jun 24 (PTI) Gurugram cyber police has busted a fake call centre in Delhi, operating in the names of a popular e-commerce platform and a hypermarket chain, and arrested five accused, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused allegedly lured victims on social media by posting fake advertisements under the name of the e-commerce platform and the hypermarket chain.
Under the pretext of verification and online shopping, they sent APK files or fraudulent links to their target’s mobile phones. Once a victim clicked on it, they gained access to their devices and banking information to execute cyber fraud.
The action followed a complaint lodged on Monday by a man who said that he was duped of Rs 56,650 after he clicked on a payment link sent by fraudsters, officials said.
The Cyber Crime Police Station in Manesar registered a case based on the complaint and initiated an investigation.
During the probe, a police team conducted a technical analysis and raided a premises in New Ashok Nagar in Delhi on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of five accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Raj Kumar (27), Karan (19) and Sonu (24), all from Bihar, and Prashant Kumar and Akhil Ahmad, both aged 28, from Uttar Pradesh.
The police also seized 18 mobile phones and a tablet from their possession.
Further interrogation is underway, and the seized electronic devices are being examined to establish links with other cyber fraud cases, a spokesperson said. PTI COR SMV SMV AMJ AMJ
