Gurugram, May 11 (PTI) An elderly woman narrowly escaped being hit by a massive hydraulic excavator while it was digging a drain in the Manesar area along the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway in Gurugram, police said.

The woman was trapped between the approaching machine and a concrete wall. Fortunately, the operator stopped in time after a passerby raised an alarm, saving her life, they added.

CCTV footage of the incident is also going viral on social media. The video shows construction work underway near the service lane along NH-48. The excavator was seen digging and loading the soil into a dumper.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman can be seen passing by the roadside when she suddenly came close to the machine’s working area.

The operator appeared unaware of her presence, and as he turned the machine to pick up soil, the woman became trapped between the wall and the rear side of the machine, said police.

Passersby and shopkeepers present at the scene immediately started shouting and waving their hands, signalling the operator to stop.

Hearing the cries, the operator immediately controlled the crane’s levers and pulled the machine back. Locals then pulled the woman safely, police added.

Eyewitnesses said such heavy machinery was being used on a busy service lane without any barricades or security guards. They demanded that the administration establish proper security perimeters during construction in residential and crowded areas to prevent such accidents in the future. PTI COR KSI KSI
