Gujarat Youth Congress suspends 49 office-bearers for skipping INDIA bloc’s Delhi rally

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Ahmedabad, Nov 4 (PTI) The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has suspended 49 office-bearers from Gujarat for failing to attend the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1, according to party sources.

The suspended office-bearers include 18 general secretaries, seven state secretaries, and 24 presidents of various district and city units.

Those suspended include district presidents of Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Mehsana, Patan and Panchmahal, among others. The city and district presidents of Rajkot and Vadodara also faced similar action, sources said.

“Taking a serious note of your absence from the Delhi event, the Indian Youth Congress leadership has decided to suspend the following office-bearers with immediate effect until further notice,” reads a letter issued by the Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress on November 3.

The suspension order was signed by Gujarat Pradesh Youth Congress president Pravinsinh Vanol and IYC national secretary Manpreet Singh Mani.

A Gujarat Congress leader said the IYC had directed all its national, state and district-level office-bearers to attend the rally and march organised by the INDIA bloc at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

An in-house application developed to digitally monitor attendance at the event showed that the 49 office-bearers from Gujarat had remained absent despite clear instructions, the leader said. PTI PJT PD NSK
