Ahmedabad, Mar 1 (PTI) Days after a gang of robbers looted jewellery worth Rs 3.93 crore in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, the state police has nabbed three persons from Madhya Pradesh and recovered a part of the loot, officials said on Wednesday.

Among those arrested were a couple from Chobaradhira and a resident of Gautam Nagar in Dewas district, said a release by the crime branch here.

The key accused involved in the robbery were yet to be nabbed, it added.

Silver and imitation jewellery worth Rs 49.59 lakh was recovered from the couple’s residence while a mini truck used in the crime was recovered from the house of the other arrested accused.

A gang of seven robbers had looted 992 kg of silver and 704 kg of imitation jewellery after intercepting a delivery van on Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway on the night of February 17.

All the gang members hailed from Dewas district of the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

They used three vehicles and intercepted the van near Sayla town, police said.

The jewellery consignment was being sent to the Ahmedabad airport by a courier firm.

During investigation, the crime branch received a tip-off that the mini truck used in the crime had been recently bought by a resident of Chidavad village in Dewas district, the release said.

Police zeroed in on him, and found that he was involved in the robbery and had given some portion of the loot to the couple to hide it in return for 10 per cent share.

The couple hid the jewellery in a ditch behind their house and plastered the surface.

Further probe is on. PTI PJT KRK KRK
