Ahmedabad, Jun 26 (PTI) The 23rd edition of Gujarat’s school enrolment drive called ‘Shala Praveshotsav’ was launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday.

Shala Praveshotsav has helped bring the school dropout rate from 35 per cent in 2003 to just 0.85 per cent today, Patel said.

He launched the drive by enrolling children into Balvatika, Anganwadi, primary school and Class 9 at Divda PM Shri School in Mahisagar district by giving educational kits.

He expressed the state government’s commitment to expand the reach of education through the trinity of schools, teachers, and learning.

“Shala Praveshotsav-Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav was originally initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2003 during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Shala Praveshotsav has helped bring the school dropout rate from 35 percent in 2003 to just 0.85 percent today. With schemes like Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati, the state government ensures financial constraints do not hinder children’s education,” he said.

The CM said the government is committed to ensuring students attend school regularly, and teachers are instructed to visit the homes of those who are absent even for a day and understand the reasons behind their absence.

He also urged parents to actively engage in School Management Committees (SMCs) to help achieve 100 per cent outcomes.

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Kuber Dindor said the initiative was launched in 2003 by Modi to ensure holistic development of children.

“CM Patel is committed to continuing this mission by ensuring 100 per cent enrolment and quality education for all-round development of children,” he added. PTI KA BNM
