New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) The SFI on Thursday welcomed the suspension of a Greater Noida executive magistrate who had approved a Rs 5 lakh bond notice against one of its members for participating in a protest against the NEET paper leak.
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Uttar Pradesh state committee member, Akshat Tripathi, had been served the notice.
The SFI claimed that the action was in violation of the Supreme Court’s direction to withdraw cases against students who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest.
The organisation described the suspension as a “victory of the whole student community” and thanked student organisations, legal teams and others who were part of the campaign.
The SFI alleged that the incident reflected “excessive and undemocratic use of power” and called upon democratic sections to oppose what it termed “executive overreach”.
The outfit said that while it welcomed the Supreme Court’s direction to withdraw cases against students who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest, cases registered against students across the country over protests against the NEET paper leak should also be withdrawn.
According to the student organisation, it had marched to the Ministry of Education on May 12, during which around 25 of its activists were arrested by the Delhi Police and cases were registered against them.
The SFI claimed that its protest demonstrations were held at more than 1,000 centres across the country, during which over 800 students were arrested and 16 student leaders were jailed.
The organisation said it had also participated in the Jantar Mantar protest from its first day along with other student groups.
The SFI demanded the withdrawal of all cases registered against students for protesting against the NEET paper leak and said it would continue its agitation until the demand was met. PTI AHD PRK
