New Delhi: A state government employee was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district Tuesday for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl and a goat.
The crime took place in the district’s Ahmadgarh village the previous day. A purported video of it, recorded by a villager, is circulating on social media.
Bulandshahr Police told ThePrint an FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by the minor girl’s father, following which accused Gajendra Singh was arrested.
According to the police, Singh was visiting an acquaintance’s house in Bulandshahr when he found the girl alone at home and allegedly raped her, and then went on to rape a goat.
Singh has been booked under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which lays out the punishment for ‘whoever commits rape on a woman under 12 years of age’. Punishment under this section is rigorous imprisonment for a term not less than 20 years, which may extend to life imprisonment, or imprisonment for the remainder of the person’s natural life, or a death sentence.
Shobhit Kumar, circle officer of Shikarpur, the tehsil under which Ahmadgarh falls, said, “Around 10 pm Monday night, information was received that a man had sexually assaulted a minor girl. He also sexually assaulted a goat. A neighbour shot a video of the crime. The accused has been arrested and is in police custody.”
According to the police, Singh works as an agricultural development officer.
The girl’s father told the media, “My daughter, who opened the door, told him not to come in as there was no one else in the house. The kid goat was tied to a pole. The incident took place around 5 pm. Singh had visited our house previously for work. On Monday, he didn’t listen to my daughter and instead sat down on the charpai.”
Sources said the minor girl was undergoing a medical examination.
