Hajipur, Aug 15 (PTI) A government contractor was allegedly shot dead in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Thursday morning, police said.
Ramnaresh Rai, a resident of Naya Tola in the Sadar police station area, was out on a morning walk near his house when two men arrived on a motorcycle and shot him, they said.
“Preliminary investigation suggests a possible land dispute as the motive,” Vaishali SP Shubhank Mishra said.
“The exact cause can only be ascertained after a proper investigation is complete,” he said.
Mishra said one spent cartridge, one live round and Rai’s bullet-hit mobile phone were recovered from the spot.
“Rai had been involved in a court case over a land dispute with a local transport operator. Rai had won the case in court, and police are examining whether the dispute was linked to the killing,” he said.
Rai worked as a contractor for several government departments, including the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), police said.
A special police team has been formed to arrest those involved in the killing, they said. PTI CORR SUK SOM
