Bhopal: Four IPS officers, including an Inspector General of Police and a Deputy Inspector General, were transferred over what Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday called “regrettable public conduct”. Among those transferred was the Superintendent of Police of Katni, Avijeet Ranjan.
In a post on X, CM Yadav said, “The Superintendent of Police of Katni and the Superintendent of Police of Datia, and IG, DIG Chambal Range have behaved in a manner which is regrettable in public service. For this reason, I have given instructions to remove them with immediate effect.”
Ranjan’s transfer comes after allegations from Damoh tehsildar Shailendra Bihari Sharma, that the Katni SP had threatened and assaulted his wife Khyati Mishra, and other family members inside a women’s police station after being detained on Saturday.
According to the tehsildar, Ranjan had started harassing his wife Khyati Mishra, the Katni city superintendent of police (of DSP rank), in February this year, two years after he (Ranjan) was transferred and posted as the Katni SP.
Sharma wrote to the Director General of Police (DGP) claiming that Ranjan was trying to “break up my family”. He also wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav claiming that Khyati was being blackmailed and threatened by Ranjan.
His father-in-law, Sharma further alleged, was also called to Katni and pressured to end the marriage between him (Sharma) and Kyati.
Finally, a week ago, Khyati Mishra was transferred to Amarpatan in Satna. Her husband alleges that when she was packing up her belongings from her government accommodation in Katni on 28 May, Ranjan sent “his goons dressed in police uniform” to threaten and assault them. They were then taken to a women’s police station and beaten up, Sharma alleged.
However, SP Khyati Mishra herself denies her husband’s allegations. In fact, in a letter to the women’s police station in Katni, Khyati Mishra alleged that while she was packing her belongings, it was her husband Shailendra Sharma who had barged in and “misbehaved with the workers”.
“He threatened to tie my hands and legs and take me to Rewa. My friend who had come to meet me intervened after which I left and informed my superiors about it,” she wrote in the letter.
Avijeet Ranjan has also denied the allegations. He told the media Sunday that he had needlessly been dragged into a rift between a husband and wife.

Avijit Ranjan is a habitual offender. So is Khyati Mishra. All through their careers they have been accused of illegal and immoral acts and deeds.
Even a child will understand what exactly is the crux of the issue in this case. Though The Print reporter tried to make it look like something else.
