Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 13 (PTI) Governance systems and laws must change in tune with rapid technological developments in the artificial intelligence era to support young people and startups coming up with new ideas, Kerala minister P K Kunhalikutty said on Thursday.
Speaking after inaugurating the new ICT Complex, AI Lab and Security Lab of the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) at Pattom here, the Industries, Commerce, IT and AI minister said the government must be ready to adapt to technological changes.
“If we are not prepared to change along with technological changes, we will become outdated,” he said, adding that C-DIT should be ready to create opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs.
The minister said investments suited to new technologies should come to the state, just as Infopark and Technopark had emerged during the growth of the IT sector.
Health and Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan, who presided over the function, said C-DIT had successfully adopted AI systems in keeping with changing times.
He said such centres would also help address the misuse and shortcomings arising from the use of AI technology.
The new AI Lab aims to develop AI-based public services that are easy for people to use, with a special focus on the Malayalam language.
According to C-DIT, it is developing systems that can speak and listen in Malayalam and English, understand questions and provide answers. The lab is also working on technology to convert speech into text and text into natural speech.
The lab will focus on developing reusable public AI systems instead of creating separate technologies repeatedly for individual projects. Data security will be ensured while keeping the systems under the full control of the government.
The Malayalam font ‘Arali’, newly developed by C-DIT, was also released at the function.
