Panaji, Sep 12 (PTI) Goa’s shack operators on Saturday welcomed the timely grant of licences and permissions by the state tourism department, saying the move will enable them to complete preparations ahead of the upcoming tourist season.
The operators met Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Friday and thanked him and the Goa government for facilitating the early licensing and registration process. It has provided greater clarity and certainty to prepare shacks for the arrival of tourists, they said.
“Shack operators, who are our tourism ambassadors, showcase Goa’s colourful beachside identity to visitors from across India and the world. Their contribution to tourism is extremely important, and the government has consistently worked to support them,” Khaunte said.
Efforts over the last two years have ensured shack licences are renewed well in advance, allowing operators to complete preparations before the tourist season, the minister added.
“We have ensured their licences are renewed in advance and that by mid-September, they are ready to welcome tourists. This is important because Goa must be prepared to receive visitors, particularly during the peak holiday periods,” he said.
Khaunte also stressed the importance of providing continuity and support to traditional shack operators, many of whom have been associated with the trade for several years and depend on it for their livelihood.
He said Goan food and local preparations served at beach shacks, including fish curry rice, mackerel and other fresh local delicacies, form an important part of the experience offered to domestic and international visitors.
Goa government has already started the process of allowing licences for beach shacks ahead of the tourist season starting from next month, he said. PTI RPS BNM
