Panaji, Jul 20 (PTI) The 15-day monsoon session of the Goa assembly will begin on Monday and the House will congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The ‘Operation Sindoor’ was initiated on May 7 this year in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people.
On the first day of the assembly session on Monday, the Goa assembly will congratulate PM Modi for his inspirational leadership and the armed forces for the stupendous success of the ‘Operation Sindoor’, as per the agenda published on the House website.
The House will also congratulate Pope Leo XIV for being chosen to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
In a series of obituaries, the House will condole death of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad last month.
The assembly will pass the Demands for Grants by various departments, besides enacting some legislations and passing various resolutions.
BJP Goa spokesperson Krishna Daji Salkar said the state government is all set to pass some pro-people legislations on the floor of the House.
The Pramod Sawant government has been proactively working for the people of Goa, providing good governance, he said.
The opposition legislators, however, said they would corner the government during the session over alleged corruption and inefficiency.
“Despite the curtailed assembly session schedule, I along with other opposition MLAs who are working in the interest of the state have planned to scrutinise the government’s performance and raise critical questions,” Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said in a statement.
The law and order has collapsed in the state, but the government is busy in hosting events and collecting commissions, he alleged.
“There is a need to study carrying capacity of the state as the government is promoting mega housing projects by converting land. We will raise these all issues in the assembly session,” Alemao said.
Vijai Sardesai, MLA of the opposition Goa Forward Party, told reporters on Saturday that during his recent tour of the state, he has come across various issues of the people which he will raise in the House.
People in Goa were suffering due to the “inefficient” government, including lack of proper health facilities in villages, he claimed. PTI RPS GK
