Bengaluru, Oct 28 (PTI) The GBA will launch a month-long ‘Ward One’ campaign across all five city corporations from November 1 to address civic issues, improve sanitation and undertake neighbourhood-level infrastructure improvements, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said on Wednesday.

He said that under the initiative, one ward will be selected from each division of the respective city corporations, and officials from various departments will work together to identify problems and implement corrective measures.

Chairing a meeting on sanitation and civic improvement works across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) jurisdiction, Gowda, who holds the Greater Bengaluru Development portfolio, directed officials to prioritise road repairs and pothole filling, particularly in areas where recent rains have damaged road surfaces, his office said in a release.

The campaign will focus on improving road conditions, repairing junctions, cleaning public spaces and removing accumulated waste and debris. Other priority works include repairing footpaths, kerbstones and slabs, fixing manhole covers, restoring streetlights and removing dry or potentially hazardous tree branches.

The initiative will also address infrastructure issues requiring inter-departmental coordination, including repairing or relocating electricity poles and ring main units (RMUs) belonging to BESCOM, preventing water leakage and repairing or removing damaged water pipelines.

Emphasising the need to improve road junctions, the minister directed officials to undertake necessary repairs and upgrades to ease traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for residents.

The campaign aims to resolve as many identified civic issues as possible by the end of November, while improving cleanliness, public safety and the overall condition of the selected wards, he said.

Committees comprising officials from relevant departments will be constituted at the divisional level across the five city corporations to coordinate works, monitor progress and prepare execution plans based on the time required to complete the identified tasks.

The minister stressed the need for coordinated action by all concerned agencies, rather than limiting the initiative to standalone cleaning drives.

As part of the exercise, ward-level officials will conduct ground surveys using a checklist to identify sanitation and infrastructure deficiencies.

Assistant Engineers, Junior Health Inspectors and marshals will inspect roads and public spaces, document pending works and identify the departments responsible for resolving each issue.

A prioritised action plan will subsequently be prepared and implemented in coordination with the concerned departments, he said.

The campaign is intended to establish a structured mechanism for identifying civic problems and ensuring coordinated action on neighbourhood maintenance and infrastructure improvement. PTI KSU KH
