Panaji, Apr 30 (PTI) Right-wing speaker Gautam Khattar, arrested for alleged objectionable statements about St Francis Xavier, was admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital on Thursday after he complained of chest pain, police said.

A local court, meanwhile, reserved its order on his bail application.

Advocate Amey Prabhudesai, his lawyer, told reporters that the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, would pronounce the order on bail plea on Saturday morning.

His remand also ends on Saturday, the lawyer said.

Khattar’s custodial interrogation was not required as the case was based on recorded material, Prabhudesai said.

“Since there is a video of his statement, there is no requirement for custody. These are documented offences. Experts will have to evaluate whether the voice in the video is his,” said the lawyer.

A senior police officer said Khattar was admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital after he complained of chest pain. He had been earlier admitted to the district hospital in Mapusa on Tuesday evening for hypertension.

Accused of making objectionable and inflammatory remarks at a public program against St Francis Xavier, the 16th century Jesuit missionary who is revered as Goa’s patron deity, Khattar was arrested earlier this week at Kullu in Himachal Pradesh by Goa Police.

His younger brother, Madhav Khattar, was arrested earlier and is now on bail. PTI RPS KRK
