Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Nov 2 (PTI) One person died and at least six were injured following an explosion in a leaked gas pipeline on Monday, shockwaves from which severely damaged a four-storey building and shattered windowpanes within a 100-metre radius, officials said.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion happened when a JCB machine dug near the underground PNG pipeline in the Gobarsahi-Dumri area. Some locals said they could hear the explosion nearly three kilometres away.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Kumar Gaurav said, “The explosion caused by a PNG pipeline leak claimed one life and left six others injured.”

“All the injured have been admitted to the nearest government hospital. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident and fix responsibility,” he said.

Officials said a four-storey building was severely damaged, while windowpanes of several houses within a 100-metre radius were shattered. Several vehicles were also damaged in the blast, they said.

The blast also led to a blaze that was brought under control by rescue teams involving the fire brigade, police and district administration teams. PTI COR PKD NSD
