Latur, Sep 25 (PTI) The culmination of Ganpati festivities in Latur on Friday saw citizens hand over idols of the deity at 16 collection centres set up by the local civic body.
Household Ganesh idols of up to four feet in height are being accepted at these centres, a Latur Municipal Corporation official said.
The aim of these collection centres is to prevent pollution of natural water bodies, particularly amid limited water availability in the region following inadequate rainfall and drought-like situation, he added.
“The LMC has deployed 900 personnel for the immersion arrangements, including 500 each at these collection centres. A total of 45 vehicles, four cranes and two JCB machines have been kept ready for transporting idols,” he said.
For larger idols, the civic body has designated 12 Number Pati on Airport Road as the main immersion facility, the official added.
As part of the safety arrangements, 20 swimmers and a 20-member trained fire brigade team have been deployed at the immersion site along with vehicles and necessary equipment. PTI COR BNM
