Wayanad (Kerala), Sep 21 (PTI) Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday paid floral tributes to Sree Narayana Guru on his Mahasamadhi Day in this hill district on Sunday.

The three leaders visited the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam office at Kalpetta in the morning and offered floral tributes to the Guru’s portrait.

“We must all remember Sree Narayana Guruji for everything he taught us. The concept of equality and compassion for all beings, is very much needed in society. We are here to pay respect to him,” Priyanka said.

Priyanka later met Syed Muhammad Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, president of the Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Ulama, at his residence in Malappuram.

Thangal described the meeting as a “friendly visit,” adding that Priyanka had expressed her wish to meet him whenever she visited Kerala.

“Last week she contacted me, and I agreed to meet. I have told her to take strong steps to safeguard communal harmony in Kerala and across India. She assured us that she and her family are committed to that cause,” he said.

According to Thangal, Priyanka told him that the Congress party has always stood for communal harmony and would continue to do so.

Thangal also said he introduced her to the activities of Samastha. “I am not a politician, but I raise issues before leaders. Likewise, I raised certain concerns with Priyanka Gandhi as well,” he added.

Priyanka has been in her constituency for the past 10 days, meeting people from various walks of life, including prominent literary, cultural, and religious figures across Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts.

Her visit is scheduled to conclude on Monday, Congress sources said.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Wayanad on September 20, are also expected to return on Monday, party leaders said. PTI TBA TBA KH
