Jammu, Jun 15 (PTI) Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta on Monday visited the Tawi Riverfront project site here, describing it as a futuristic initiative with significant scope for further growth.

Developed at a cost of Rs 156 crore, the Tawi Riverfront project (Phase-I) was dedicated to the public in April.

In Phase-1 of the project, Jammu Smart City Limited has developed promenades on the left bank, right bank and the central island, creating four continuous stretches for walking, jogging and cycling besides developing a dedicated ghat area for Tawi Aarti.

Tamta lauded all stakeholders involved in the development of the riverfront, observing that the project has definitively aided flood control, and described it as a futuristic initiative with significant scope for further growth.

“It will be a landmark project, a historic gift to the region,” he said, taking stock of the ongoing works at the scene.

The minister noted that the riverfront is already emerging as an attraction for Tawi Aarti and other aquatic activities planned at the location. He shared his vision for the further development of the region through elaborate road connectivity projects, noting that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is already developing roads and highways equipped with modern amenities in the toughest terrains, right up to the frontiers of India’s geography.

Pointing to tangible results, he said that travel time between Jammu and Srinagar has been reduced to just under five hours owing to recent highway development. PTI TAS TAS KSS KSS
