Patna, Oct 21 (PTI) Four women fainted after falling amid a crowd surge at a Ravan Dahan programme in Bihar’s Patna district, but all are safe now, a police officer said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at the main gate of Gandhi Maidan in the Masaurhi police station area.

“Around 15,000 to 20,000 people had gathered at the ground for the event organised by a local committee. As the programme concluded, people began leaving through three gates. Some women fell amid the crowd surge at the main gate and fainted,” Masaurhi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-I Raghav Dayal told reporters.

Police personnel and committee members rescued the women and took them to a local government hospital, he said.

“Three of the women were treated and discharged soon afterwards, while Renu Devi, a resident of Masaurhi, was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for better treatment,” the SDPO added.

Renu Devi is now safe and undergoing treatment at PMCH, Dayal said, adding that the Ravan Dahan programme concluded peacefully. PTI SUK MNB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
