Thrissur (Keralam), Sep 5 (PTI) Four police personnel were suspended for allegedly leaving injured persons at the scene of an accident after their motorcycle was hit by a police department vehicle during a chase in Pudukkad in Thrissur district, officials said on Saturday.
Following a preliminary inquiry, Thrissur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police T Narayanan ordered the suspension of Sub Inspector Mahesh and civil police officers Michael, Yadhukrishnan and Naveen Kumar who were working at Pudukkad station, police said.
According to officials, the incident occurred on July 19 after a fight broke out at a roadside eatery, following which police reached the spot and launched an operation to apprehend the group allegedly involved in the incident.
While the officials were chasing a suspected person named Abhishek, the police jeep collided with the motorcycle on which he and his friend were travelling, causing the riders to fall and sustain injuries.
The police personnel allegedly left the injured persons at the scene and departed without taking them to a hospital, officials said.
Residents later rushed Abhishek and his friend to a hospital, they said.
The incident triggered criticism from residents over the police action, prompting a preliminary inquiry against the officials.
Police said further disciplinary action would be taken against the suspended personnel after completion of a detailed inquiry. PTI TBA TBA ADB
