Ahmedabad, Jun 17 (PTI) Four municipal corporations in Gujarat, including those in Surat and Bhavnagar, along with a school in Vadodara on Wednesday received emails threatening bomb blasts in their premises, prompting the authorities to launch extensive searches, in which nothing suspicious was found, police said.
The emails were purportedly sent by the ‘Khalistan National Army’, which talked about blasts to avenge the “martyrdom” of their leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the police said.
Apart from Surat and Bhavnagar, the municipal corporations in Vadodara and Jamnagar also received such threat emails in the morning, they said.
“Threat emails were received by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Navrachana School in the city. Search operations were carried out in the premises of these institutions, in which nothing suspicious was found,” Vadodara Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Himanshu Verma, said.
The Surat civic body also got a similar threat email.
“A search was conducted at the municipal corporation. The entire premises were vacated and searched for nearly two hours, but nothing suspicious was found,” DCP Zone 2, Raghav Jain said.
The emails were purportedly sent by Khalistan National Army, the police said, adding that they were probing the origin of these communications.
Superintendent of Police of Bhavnagar, Nitesh Pandey, said a search team was rushed to the city civic body after the police learnt about an email threatening a bomb blast there. But no suspicious object was found during the operation, he said.
Similarly, the email received by Jamnagar municipal corporation also turned out to be a hoax, a civic official said.
“During the search, no suspicious object, explosive material or dangerous substance was found, after which, the police declared the building completely safe. After the completion of the search, the office-bearers, officers and employees were allowed to enter the office again,” he said.
This is not the first time such threat emails have been received in Gujarat. The state legislative assembly and a number of schools have been repeatedly targeted by the senders of these hoax emails. Police even made some arrests in this connection in the recent past.
On June 10, an email purportedly sent in the name of the “Khalistan National Army”, threatening to blow up the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office in Gandhinagar and offices of the Ahmedabad civic body and the RSS, prompted search operations. But no suspicious objects had been found at any of the locations PTI COR KA NP
