New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) Foreign diplomats participated in a tree plantation drive organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Nehru Park here on Wednesday under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on Earth Day, officials said.

NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal said, “Plant a tree today, nurture it tomorrow, and give a greener future to the coming generations.” Chahal said the initiative carries forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of environmental protection through public participation.

He said the campaign encourages people to plant a tree in their mothers’ names and nurture it.

“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam is not just a campaign, but an emotional and social responsibility that inspires us to honour our mothers while fulfilling our duties towards nature,” he said.

Chahal said the NDMC involved embassies and high commissions in the campaign to strengthen international cooperation on environmental conservation.

Representatives of several embassies and high commissions, including Poland, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Portugal, Seychelles, the Philippines and Guyana, attended the NDMC event.

Foreign dignitaries who took part in the programme appreciated the initiative.

They said such efforts help improve the environment while strengthening mutual understanding and relations among countries.

Chahal said plantation drives are organised regularly, including on Sundays, to sustain the campaign’s impact and turn it into a mass movement.

Officials and staff from NDMC’s horticulture, health, civil and electrical departments, along with teachers from NDMC schools, also participated in the drive. PTI VBH ASD ASD
