Nagpur, Jul 24 (PTI) Five girls in the 15-17 age group who travelled from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh to Nagpur out of fear that they would be scolded by their parents for reaching home late were rescued by the Railway Protection Force, an official said on Thursday.

The minor girls were spotted by patrolling RPF personnel on platform number 8 of Nagpur railway station here on July 22 and spoken to by woman head constable Manju Sharma, a Central Railway release said.

“They were brought to the RPF post here and counselled by sub inspector Jhuma Ingle in the presence of a Childline representative. The children informed they had gone to a temple in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur and had fled to Nagpur fearing they would be scolded for reaching home late,” an official told PTI.

“The children were taken for medical check-up at Mayo Hospital here as per procedure. Other documentation processes were also carried out since they are minors. They have been handed over to authorities at government girls’ shelter home and will be reunited with their parents soon,” he added. PTI CLS BNM
