FIRs filed against temple office bearers in Kannur over unlicensed fireworks display

Kannur (Kerala), Apr 23 (PTI) Police have lodged cases against 10 persons in connection with a fireworks display allegedly conducted without a licence or safety precautions during a temple festival at Pappinisseri here two days ago.

Two separate FIRs have been registered in connection with the incident that occurred on April 21 at Baliapattam police station.

One FIR is against seven office-bearers of the Keecheri Sree Palottu Kavu Kshethram at Pappinisseri, while the other names three persons who were allegedly carrying out the fireworks display, police said.

The FIRs state that the fireworks display was conducted on the night of April 21 in front of the temple, where a large crowd had gathered, allegedly without any licence or safety precautions, thereby endangering public safety.

All 10 accused have been booked under Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Indian Explosives Act. PTI HMP SSK
