Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Sep 5 (PTI) FIRs will be registered against individuals found dumping garbage into rivers or along their banks in Dehradun, District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan said on Saturday.
Chauhan directed Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to strengthen solid waste management systems in their respective areas and ensure strict compliance with the Supreme Court’s guidelines on waste disposal.
During a meeting, the district magistrate instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials of municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats to ensure there was no negligence at any stage of waste disposal.
He directed officials to immediately identify unauthorised dumping sites, fix accountability of agencies operating in those areas and take strict action in cases of negligence.
Expressing concern over garbage being dumped into rivers and along riverbanks, Chauhan also called for strengthening the monitoring mechanism by installing nets in vulnerable areas. He reiterated that FIRs should be registered against individuals caught dumping waste into rivers.
SDM Aparna Dhaundiyal informed the meeting that a dedicated cell had been constituted to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives and effective implementation of solid waste management rules.
She said copies of the court’s order had been provided to elected representatives and councillors of all municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats, zila panchayats and cantonment boards. PTI COR DPT MPL MDO MDO
