Thane, Apr 19 (PTI) A fire broke out at a scrap godown in Maharashtra’s Thane district in the early hours of Sunday, destroying machinery and large stocks of cardboard, a civic official said.

No casualties were reported in the blaze that erupted around 6.40 am at the godown in Shamim Compound on the Shilphata-Mahape Road in Diwa, the official said.

The blaze destroyed a hydraulic paper baling press, a huge stock of scrap cardboard materials stored in the godown and electrical wiring, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the civic disaster management cell.

He said that the fire department officers and personnel arrived at the spot with two high-rise fire vehicles, a rescue vehicle, and a jeep.

The blaze was brought under control after five hours of efforts, and no one was injured at the scene, he said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, the official added. PTI COR ARU
