Hapur (UP), Sep 3 (PTI) A major fire broke out at a factory in the UPSIDC Phase-3 industrial area here on Thursday evening, leaving three workers injured, officials said.

They said foam mattresses were manufactured at the factory and the fire broke out in foam stored in shed number 3.

Around 300 workers were present at the factory at the time of the incident, the officials said.

On receiving information about the incident, four fire tenders from Pilkhuwa and Hapur reached the spot. Firefighters surrounded the blaze from all sides and brought it under control after considerable effort, Chief Fire Officer Ajay Sharma said.

A search operation was also conducted to ensure that all workers were safely evacuated, he said, adding that the prompt response prevented the fire from spreading to the factory’s seven other sheds.

Three workers — Nafees (40), Jabir (48) and Abdullah (32) — suffered burn injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital, the officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. PTI COR KIS DIV DIV

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
