Korba (Chhattisgarh), Jul 25 (PTI) A massive fire broke out at a carbon manufacturing factory in an industrial area of Chhattisgarh’s Korba city on Saturday afternoon, triggering panic in the vicinity, police said.
No casualties have been reported so far, they said.
More than 20 workers managed to escape safely after the fire erupted, officials said.
After being alerted, police personnel reached the spot and have been assisting the fire department to bring the blaze under control, Korba Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari said.
“No information has been received so far about any loss of life,” he said.
The blaze quickly intensified, sending towering flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky, which was visible from several kilometres away.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and an operation was launched to contain the blaze, officials said.
The police and district administration have cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure, restricting public movement around the factory while firefighting operations continued, they said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, they said.
Raw materials, machinery and other equipment worth lakhs of rupees are feared to have been destroyed in the fire.
