Lucknow (UP), May 27 (PTI) A fire broke out in a residential building in the Ram Puri area of Surya Nagar in Ghaziabad after an EV car ignited while charging, officials said on Wednesday, adding that no casualties were reported in the incident.

According to officials, the incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Link Road police station area. The building had an electric vehicle charging station on the ground floor, where the car was being charged when the fire suddenly erupted. The blaze quickly intensified, triggering panic among residents and nearby locals.

Dense smoke soon engulfed the building and staircases, making it difficult for residents to escape, eyewitnesses said.

Nearly 15 people trapped inside managed to save themselves by jumping into a neighbouring building, while others were alerted by residents shouting for help and evacuating families from their homes.

Rakesh, a resident, said the car parked on the ground floor was engulfed in flames when he noticed the incident.

After receiving information about the incident, four fire tenders from the Vaishali and Sahibabad fire stations reached the spot and brought the blaze under control after around 25 minutes of firefighting efforts.

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal said the fire team launched a swift rescue operation and evacuated all residents safely.

Prima facie, the fire appears to have been caused by a short circuit during charging of the electric vehicle, though a detailed investigation is underway, the officer added. PTI CDN APL APL
