New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) A fire in a bank’s building in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar area on Tuesday forced residents on the upper floors to escape through the terrace of an adjacent building, an official said. No injuries were reported.
According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call reporting the blaze was received at 6 pm, following which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
“There is a bank on the first floor of the building and the top three floors are residential. Fire started on the ground floor due to a suspected short circuit in the electricity board installed near the entrance. At least four electricity meters caught fire,” a DFS officer said.
As thick smoke spread through the building, people living on the second, third and fourth floors rushed to the terrace and crossed over to a neighbouring building.
Station Officer BL Meena said firefighters managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other portions of the building. PTI BM VN VN
