Jhansi (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) Police registered an FIR on Thursday against three persons for allegedly circulating AI-generated objectionable images of a local BJP leader on social media and demanding money while threatening to malign his reputation, officials said.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly sought Rs 5 lakh from the BJP functionary and threatened to implicate him in a false case if the demand was not met.

The complainant, Rupesh Kumar, a resident of Balaji Colony in Baruasagar and the BJP’s Baruasagar Mandal president, alleged that some local residents, including Amit Kumar and Neeraj, developed hostility towards him after his appointment to the party post.

Kumar claimed that the accused, through a relative, had recently issued threats and demanded money.

He alleged that they later conspired with some persons claiming to be mediapersons and circulated digitally altered images purportedly showing him in an intimate situation with a woman.

The BJP leader alleged that artificial intelligence (AI) technology generated the images and that they were intended to damage his political image and reputation.

Station House Officer Prakash Singh of the Baruasagar police station said a case has been registered against three persons under relevant provisions of the BNS and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act. PTI CORR ABN ASD ASD
