Financial constraints cited in HC by K’taka govt for non-payment of Gruha Lakshmi dues, claims BJP leader

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Bengaluru, Nov 4 (PTI) Karnataka Government has cited “genuine financial constraints” as the reason for being unable to disburse the monthly benefit of Rs 2,000 to economically weaker sections under the Gruha Lakshmi guarantee scheme before the Karnataka High Court, senior BJP leader and former minister C T Ravi claimed on Wednesday.

Ravi shared purported documents on his ‘X’ handle to buttress his claim.

In his post, the BJP MLC said when the opposition questioned about this “lapse” in the state Assembly, the government blamed server issues.

“But before the High Court, it cited severe financial constraints as the reason for withholding the payments. In other words, the government gave one explanation to the Assembly and another to the Court!” Ravi charged.

He further alleged that to prevent the funds from lapsing, on March 31, 2025, Rs 2,660.26 crore of public money was transferred from the Treasury DBT system to the commercial bank account of the KSWDC Corporation. In doing so, the “government itself violated financial rules.”

The Congress government, which put on a “show” of explanations in the Assembly, has now admitted its actions in an affidavit submitted to the High Court, Ravi charged.

“Under the guise of Gruha Lakshmi, the government has cheated the mothers of Karnataka of Rs 5,000 crore,” the BJP leader alleged.

Demanding that the money must be credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts without further delay, the MLC said the BJP will not allow the Congress government to get away with this.

“We will stand firmly with the women of Karnataka and fight until they receive every rupee due to them,” Ravi said.

There was no immediate response from the government or the ruling Congress.

The BJP had earlier alleged that the state government failed to disburse the monthly payment of Rs 2,000 to each women head of the families living below the poverty line under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in the months of February and March 2025.

There are about 1.27 crore beneficiaries under the key “guarantee” scheme. PTI GMS GMS SA
