New Delhi: Extensive work was done in the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, launched on 30 March, the Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s office said in a statement Monday marking the conclusion of the 90-day programme.
A large-scale rainwater harvesting drive was launched in the state for the first time under the initiative, it said, adding that authorities identified more than 145 river sources for rejuvenation and initiated cleanliness drives and plantation activities at these sites.
“The district of Khandwa alone constructed over 1.29 lakh water structures, making it the top district in the country for groundwater conservation,” the statement added.
It went on to say that the state government appointed more than 2.3 lakh Jaldoots across the state during this campaign, and initiated the construction of more than 83,000 farm ponds, besides the creation of dugwell recharge structures. These projects, the statement said, were monitored regularly through AI-integrated dashboards.
According to the statement, the campaign focusing on harvesting rainwater and restoring traditional water sources materialised because of mass public participation.
