Jaipur, Nov 4 (PTI) An explosion on a railway track in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district left two concrete blocks supporting the track damaged and prompted authorities to cancel train services on the Suratgarh-Anupgarh route, officials said on Wednesday.

A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reached the site of the explosion, Inspector General, Railway Protection Force, Jyoti Kumar said.

The explosion occurred around 9:45 pm Tuesday night near 50 GB village, about 45 minutes after a passenger train had passed through the area, police said.

Two concrete blocks beneath the railway track were damaged in the blast, leaving a crater around two feet deep.

Villagers living about 200 metres from the spot heard the explosion and rushed towards the railway track. Police and other officials reached the site after receiving information from locals.

Forensic experts were collecting samples from the site, and security agencies were examining all possible angles.

Investigators are examining the material used in the explosion, its motive and the possible involvement of others.

Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav said the investigation was going on to establish the intensity of the explosion and identify those responsible for damaging the railway track.

Kumar said, “The investigation is being done by the local police. Teams from the NIA and ATS have also arrived”.
