New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) “Shapes of Memories”, an exhibition celebrating the works of modern artist and sculptor late Bal Krishan Guru, will be held here at Bikaner House, starting March 18.
To be inaugurated by the High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Roger Gopaul, the six-day-long retrospective exhibition is an attempt by his wife, Pushpa Guru, to reclaim some of the memories and bring exposure to the work of her late husband, who is considered an “unsung hero” of his time.
Born in 1940 in Lahore, Guru, who migrated and settled in India post-partition, has received national scholarships and multiple honours, including the ‘National Award’ from Lalit Kala Akademi in 1963, and President of India Award in 1964.
“Leading a simple life, dedicated to his work in the studio, well-cooked home meals, and an ample amount of travel around the world for projects and camps, Guru brought to the realm of sculptural art an expression that should be viewed and valued, rather than stored and forgotten,” said curator Georgina Maddox in a statement.
The exhibition showcases as many as 40 sculptures and 20 murals.
Guru’s works can be found in collections across India and abroad.
