Mumbai, May 14 (PTI) Former Lok Sabha member from Maharashtra’s Thane district, Anand Paranjpe, on Thursday resigned as a primary member of the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.
He did not specify his next political move, but mentioned in his letter to Pawar that he was quitting the party to “start a new journey”.
In the letter, Paranjpe said he has resigned as the party’s general secretary, spokesperson and coordinator for Thane and Palghar districts.
Paranjpe thanked the party leaders, office-bearers and workers for their association with him for 14 years.
“With a heavy heart, I end my association with NCP to start a new journey,” he said.
Paranjpe, son of veteran Shiv Sena leader late Prakash Paranjpe, had quit the Shiv Sena in 2012 and joined the NCP. He sided with late Ajit Pawar after the latter joined the Mahayuti government in July 2023, which also led to a split within the NCP.
Paranjpe is a two-time Lok Sabha member. He had won the Kalyan Lok Sabha seat in 2009 for the Shiv Sena. He, however, lost the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Kalyan to undivided Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde. PTI MR NP
