Shimla, Apr 16 (PTI) Former Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur on Thursday slammed the government for sending their workers to remote locations and said that all the ministers are competent and experienced and should be allowed to function independently.
Thakur, who was in Shimla for the first meeting of the restructured Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), interacted with the media and said, “Workers are the backbone of the party and undermining them would have a negative impact on the party and the government.” He said that there have been instances in the Education department where Congress office bearers were posted in remote locations while 20 principal posts were vacant in the Mandi district.
“I raised this issue personally with the Education Minister Rohit Thakur, and he informed me that he had sent the file to the chief minister. It remained pending for quite some time in the Chief Minister’s office”, the senior Congress leader said.
“All the ministers are responsible, intelligent and experienced and should be allowed to work independently,” Thakur said.
He said that he has raised these issues in workers’ meetings and not publicly.
He further stressed the need for better coordination between the government and the organisation.
Last week, Thakur opened a front against his own government, accusing the chief minister’s approved notes were not being implemented and that the party was facing the ire of the workers.
The veteran leader, who is also a former minister and ex-speaker of the state assembly, had said last week that he had recently given names for promotion of school principals, but they were not posted against vacant posts in Mandi.
“Instead, they were sent to remote areas like Kibber and Panjai. Despite personally informing the chief minister, nothing was done,” he had said.
If the recommendations of senior leaders meet such a fate, who will listen to the grievances of the common party worker, he added.
Expressing concern over shortcomings in the organisational setup, he said the appointments of district and block presidents are pending in some districts, which could affect the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections to Panchayati Raj institutions (PRI).
He said that the PRI election is like a semi-final and the Congress party would contest the polls with full strength and try its best to secure victory. PTI BPL HIG HIG
