Elephant tramples farmer to death in TN’s Erode district

Erode (TN), Oct 12 (PTI) An elephant trampled a farmer to death in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode district on Thursday, forest officials said.

According to forest officials, 64-year-old Raman of Irruttipalayam near Kadambur forest in STR, was returning home after delivering the milk collected from his farm to the milk society. Suddenly, an elephant came out of the forest and attacked the farmer, killing him on the spot.

The nearby people heard the noise of the farmer, rushed to the spot and chased the elephant back to the forest, they said.

On receiving information, the forest officials reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Sathyamangalam Government Hospital for postmortem.

Kadambur police have registered a case and are investigating. PTI COR KH
