Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 6 (PTI) KSEB has imposed a penalty of over Rs 10.71 lakh after detecting the misuse of domestic electricity connections in flats allegedly being rented out as lodges through online booking platforms here, officials said on Monday.

The irregularity was detected during a surprise inspection conducted jointly by the Anti Power Theft Squad (APTS) units of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam under the directions of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Chief Vigilance Officer.

The inspection was carried out in flats coming under the Kazhakkoottam Electrical Section, officials said.

KSEB said domestic electricity connections were found to have been used for commercial lodging purposes in violation of the applicable tariff regulations.

According to officials, a penalty of Rs 10,71,416 has been imposed across three consumer numbers, and notices have been issued to the consumers concerned.

KSEB said similar inspections would continue across the state to prevent the misuse of domestic electricity connections. PTI TBA TBA ADB
