New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, which recently ranked top 30 globally in the Times Higher Education Employability Rankings, has recorded its highest ever placements this year. There has been a 45 per cent increase in the number of job offers to graduates, as compared to last year.
In the ongoing placement season at the IITs, the institute till 15 December has received 1,250 job offers for its students, the highest ever, it said in a press release Thursday.
“While the number of offers and hence the number of unique selections is at a record high, there has been over 45 per cent increase in the number of offers received by the campus during this period over last year. Even pre-placement offers (PPOs) received this year were highest in the last five years,” a statement from the institute read.
Average salaries for students have also gone up by 20 per cent this year as compared to the last year, the institute informed.
Top sectors, top recruiters
The top three sectors in terms of employment were 32 per cent in Information and Technology, followed by 30 per cent in core areas and 14 per cent in consulting.
The top recruiters at IIT Delhi include EXL Analytics, Graviton Research Capital LLP, HCL Technologies, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited and Microsoft. Microsoft gave the highest number of offers on the campus — around 60.
In terms of international job offers, Rakuten Mobile of Japan gave the highest number of international offers. This year, 40 international job offers were extended to students during the placement season.
While the placement data is only till 15 December, the institute informed that this phase (Phase 1) of the placement season will get over by the end of December and some more companies are still lined up. Phase 2 of the placement season will be conducted between January and May.
“More than 400 organisations across sectors, offering 800 plus job profiles, have registered as of now for hiring students. Many companies will be scheduled in the coming days,” the institute said.
A placement official at the institute said that they believe that recruiters are looking at economic recovery and hence a record number of hiring is taking place.
